Andrew Stewart studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art gaining a B.A. (Hons) in Fine Art, Drawing and Painting.
Specialising in landscape painting Andrew works primarily in oil paint using traditional methods and painting techniques to capture the ever changing mood and atmosphere of the Scottish countryside.
I try to be honest in how I represent the landscape, Scotland is so changeable from one day to the next that each painting needs a completely new approach which is great because that stops my work from becoming formulaic, and each one is a completely new challenge, from small quick studies to large scale studio pieces
Andrews work has often been likened to the 19th century Glasgow painter Horatio McCulloch and like him Andrew has spent many hours working in some of the most remote parts of the Highlands,
The great thing about the West coast landscape is the palpable sense that time passes slowly here and you really feel it when youre out in amongst the nooks and crannies
